Edwin “Ed” Yvonne Tealer was born in Gonzales, TX on December 15, 1939 to the late Alpha and James Tealer. He was the brother of seven other siblings (six boys and one girl). He attended and graduated from Edwards High School in 1957. After graduating from high school, Ed had a desire to leave Gonzales to seek a better opportunity for himself and experience what the world had to offer.

Ed entered the United States Air Force on April 26, 1958 at the age of 19 years old. He entered the Air Force and completed his basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. A few years after entering the Air Force, Ed married his high school sweetheart, Evelyn Lewis. They were married on September 2, 1961, at Providence Baptist Church in Gonzales, Texas. They began their lives together living as a military couple at Tyndall Air Force Base in Panama City, Florida. Three years after their union, Stephanie was added to the family, with Cedric coming along four years after his sister. Together, they experienced all that military life had to offer while living on military bases in Florida, Texas, Spain, and New Mexico. Moving to and from different military bases made it difficult to remain near friends and family, but this experience drew the Tealer Family even closer as they supported each other after each move.

After 25 years in the military and achieving the rank of Senior Master Sergeant, Ed decided to retire from the military. As an illustration of how he always prioritized his family, he turned down an opportunity to be promoted to Chief Master Sergeant, knowing that his two children were in middle and high school at the time, and not wanting to uproot his family once again due to the required transfer to another Air Force Base in Germany. With a continuous focus on providing for his family and setting his wife and himself up for a comfortable retirement, Ed worked for the United States Postal Service for another 20 years, before ultimately retiring for good.

During his retirement, Ed enjoyed spending time with his family, which included his grandchildren, Dallas and Brooklyn, who where both the joy of his life. His grandchildren permanently changed his name within our family to “Baba,” which you would hear in front of every instruction and demand coming from each one of them. Baba absolutely loved the attention from his grandchildren and would always go for “one more walk”, “play one more game” or “watch one more show” no matter how tired he might have been.

Everyone that met or knew Ed through the years, experienced the joy and positivity he exuded. They also quickly realized that he was a gifted conversationalist. He loved to engage in discussions and debates with almost everyone. He could often be found, somewhere within his Westcreek Neighborhood talking to a neighbor he knew or someone he just met. There were also many “epic” debate sessions between him and his daughter and son. On Wednesday, January 26, 2022, Ed was released from the grip of the disease that kept him from the discussions and debates he loved so dearly. He is preceded in death by his parents and five siblings: James Willis, Roy, Milam, Lawrence, and Ruth.

His spirit and love live on within his devoted wife, Evelyn; his children, Stephanie and Cedric; his grandchildren, Dallas and Brooklyn; his daughter-in-law, Maria; his siblings, Kingston and Ronald; his sisters-in-law; Cornelia Willie, Alice Lewis, Earline Lewis, Mary Lee Lewis, and Verda Tealer; and a host of loving family and friends.
