The Sandlot

What to Know

Critics Consensus

It may be shamelessly derivative and overly nostalgic, but The Sandlot is nevertheless a genuinely sweet and funny coming-of-age adventure.

Teddy B An effective exercise in classic American nostalgia with an intriguing enough premise to keep the viewer engaged. Rated 3.5/5 Stars • Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/13/24 Full Review Kenneth L Watching this as a 50 year-old man, this movie was ok. It was cute in parts, but it wasn't great. I think they tried to make something like A Christmas Story or The Wonder Years, but it just wasn't as good as those. Rated 3/5 Stars • Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/18/24 Full Review Code F Let me be clear: this movie was my childhood. Now at 36, this is still one of my favorite movies of all time. The sense of adventure, wonder, anticipation, fear, and accomplishment, make this movie still do it for me to this day. As a father of a 5 year old girl, it brings a smile to my face to see her love this movie (maybe not to the level that I did), and love watching it together.Sure, there are things here and there as an adult that are corny, but I could care less. Anyone rating this movie rotten, are more than likely old, sheltered, or read books instead of playing outside as a child. Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/03/24 Full Review Platty the Perrypus W Literally where I first heard the S swear word Rated 4.5/5 Stars • Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 12/08/23 Full Review Heather P This movie is my happy place! Rated 4.5/5 Stars • Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 12/05/23 Full Review Joel H Even though I wasn't alive in the 60s, and I didn't really play baseball with my buddies growing up, The Sandlot reminds me of my childhood. This movie captures the essence of youth, and I think that is what makes it so relatable. It features a great cast of kids. Each one of them bring something to the table. It has a cleverness to it that can make me smile and laugh each time I watch it. However, the story also has a lot of heart. Yes, this movie was a childhood favorite of mine, but it still holds up well as an adult. If you haven't seen it in for-e-ver, you should visit The Sandlot once again.
