We’d like to share a new article in Nature Portfolio’s Communications Biology, led by Precision Vaccines Program researchers Drs. Simone Schüller, Soumik Barman, Ofer Levy, MD PhD and David Dowling, Ph.D., that characterizes adjuvant-specific innate immune responses across the human lifespan using cutting-edge #CyTOF technology and computational approaches. The study could shed light on how age-specific immune responses affect vaccine efficacy and how to balance this using age-tailored vaccine adjuvants.Schüller and Barman et al. 2024: https://lnkd.in/g5yjJtZW

VIB #SpatialOmics24 is all about, you guessed it, #spatialbiology… and all of the latest spatial technologies that allow researchers to accurately map the role of each cell in a sample, which in turn, can help predict disease outcomes or immune response to a novel therapy.Imaging Mass Cytometry™ is one of these technologies, clearly defining areas in any tissue type ― including lung, bone marrow, colon and brain ― without background autofluorescence or spectral overlap. Hester Koppejan covered applications that benefit from this approach in today’s talk: High-plex whole slide spatial biology assays for clinical translational research powered by the Hyperion XTi™.More on the event: https://lnkd.in/etxs2CMkMore on #spatialbiology: https://lnkd.in/g8aHFdSF #clinicalresearch #immunology Roberto Spada Sandra D.

Hello from Saint-Malo, where we are attending the Association Française d'Histotechnologie Congress. Thank you to Patrice HEMON, PhD, for his presentation on the application of Imaging Mass Cytometry™ in the field of #cancerresearch. He highlighted a study led by Marion Le Rochais at LBAI - B Lymphocytes, Autoimmunity and Immunotherapies - Inserm U1227, which shows how IMC™ can help to define biomarkers of prognostic and therapeutic importance, improve our understanding of cancer progression and its resistance mechanisms to the immune system and develop treatments directed against new therapeutic targets through the use of a 39-marker protein panel in colorectal cancer tissues. #translationalresearch #clinicalresearch David G. Exciting cardiovascular research out of the University of Toronto demonstrates that macrophage-engineered human cardiac microtissues represent a considerably improved model for human heart development and reveal a major beneficial role for human primitive macrophages in enhancing early cardiac tissue function. The paper states that multidimensional #CyTOF analysis showed hESC-macrophages can reduce mitochondrial debris, increase ATP production and realign cardiomyocyte metabolism to approximate early fetal ventricular cardiomyocytes.Hamidzada, H. et al. We are thrilled to be supporting the Translational Immunology School happening this week in Chiemsee, Germany. New technologies are helping us understand more complex biology, opening doors to applying what we’ve learned to the design of novel therapeutics.Whole slide tissue imaging using protein markers allows the visualization of the overall heterogeneity of a tissue sample, reveals structural variations across the sample and can assist in pinpointing a focus area of activity. Melissa Klug will be presenting this application in tomorrow’s talk: High-plex whole slide spatial biology assays for translational immuno-oncology research.More about the School: https://lnkd.in/gysFNdCVMore on #spatialbiology: https://lnkd.in/g8aHFdSF #translationalresearch #immunology

Regular pathogen surveillance is key all year round as a method to help control outbreaks, with epidemiologically significant variants constantly emerging. qPCR is universally used to detect and quantify pathogens, but conventional methods are time consuming and labor-intensive when several pathogens must be detected in a short period, such as when rapid detection of a virus with multiple mutations is required. Take a look through these examples of how the simultaneous detection and quantification of a large number of pathogens using IFCs instead of microtiter plates can reduce cost, time, labor and reagents: https://lnkd.in/gKjBzxYy #wastewater #respiratoryviruses #foodborneillness #antimicrobialresistance

Thank you to Jolanda Sarno, PhD, Junior Group Leader, Tettamanti Research Center, Fondazione IRCCS San Gerardo dei Tintori, for her excellent talk at the GIC Italian Cytometry Conference this week! She discussed how single-cell classification of B-cell precursor acute lymphoblastic #leukemia by #CyTOF reveals predictors of treatment resistance. We appreciate the interest and questions at the Standard BioTools booth about the ease of analyzing immune cells, intracellular cytokines, intracellular phosphoproteins, transcription factors and cell state simultaneously, and a big thanks to Paolo Santino, Glòria Martrus Zapater, Daniela Natale!
